because people believe stupid things
I haven’t seen the film yet-waiting for the DVD. But Bill Maher is RIGHT ON THE MONEY.

There have been, and are, many intelligent people who are religious. Only by redefining ignorant can you state that all religious people are ignorant.
There has been much good contributed to the world by religious people. There is no credit given for the many good acts that have been performed in the name of religion.
I don’t think you will find atheist that would disagree with that statement. However, the point is that you don’t have to be religious to be moral. Morals exist outside of belief in god, and are an evolutionary construct needed to exist in social groups. The point Maher is making is that even though some good comes from religion, an awful lot of bad comes as well, and I can almost guarantee you it won’t be a non-believer that ends the world. We can and should outgrow these silly beliefs in mythological claptrap, because if we don’t they will end us.
yeah, we all just hate you.
christians, in fact, are afraid to mention in public that they are christian, for fear of being fired or harrassed.
christians are afraid to wear their distinctly christian clothing because they fear violence or harrasment.
christians don’t go into certain bars, because if somebody noticed they were christian, violence might ensue.
christians are regularly barred admittance to colleges, clubs, restaurants, airplanes, etc.
christians are not allowed to marry other christians.
to be called a “christian” is a tremendous insult.
I agree that morals can be established apart from religion.
Maher’s presentation as seen in the video clip that you posted was one sided.
If you want to prevent violence, then focussing your efforts on the violence prone sub groups would make more sense than attacking an entire establishment. that is primarily devoted to peace and good works.
According to a popular version of Christian eschatology, (which I share) it is the remaining Christians that will be oppressed and killed by the reigning political powers during the Tribulation. I suppose that they will claim that it is for the “common good”. Your final statement in the previous comment could be used to support that kind of “solution”.
Personal Failure, I was responding to the video clip on this post which implied that people of faith are ignorant and prone to violence. I am not sure to what you are responding, but it appears directed at my comment. I do not see the connection, but it is obvious that you have your own issues with Christianity.
Eschatology…might as well poop in a bucket full of water and devine the future from the way your turds float.
I have no problem with any religion, just all of them, because they are all fake, and a drain on human potential.
Obviously, you do not believe that God exists.
Obviously, I believe that God does exist.
Whether God exists or not, there are many people for whom their faith provides strength to face the challenges of today, and hope for a better tomorrow. Strength and hope are powerful assets, and there are many people who would testify that their faith helps them to maximize their potential in a wide variety of endeavors.
