LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) – The leader of an apocalyptic sect has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of sexual misconduct with a teenage female follower.

The judge sentenced 67-year-old Wayne Bent to the maximum of 18 years on Tuesday, then suspended eight years.

Bent was convicted of 1 count of criminal sexual contact of a minor and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor earlier this month. He was acquitted of a second criminal sexual contact charge involving the younger of 2 sisters.

Bent told the judge before sentencing that no crime had been commtted. The leader of The Lord Our Righteousness Church said no one had been molested and he never touched any of the girls sexually.

Would have been happier if he got the full 18, but the fact is, he is paying for his crimes.  Of course, if he follows through on his threat to starve himself to death…  We’ll just see how committed he is to his own delusion.

It will be unfortunate if any of his followers also starve themselves in order to prove their fealty to this deluded fool.
